It's more relaxing and safer to play than Tal Rasha's Meteor build, yet still effective, making it a great farming build. While many players have and will continue to convert to the more powerful Tal Rasha's set, Typhon revolves around Hydra with the Frost Hydra rune. (The remaining two are using LoD gem builds with Ancient gear and no set pieces at all, a strategy that falls between the top three and bottom two sets).Īlso not a surprise is the #2 set, The Typhon's Veil, which is Haedrig's Gift this year. It's not a coincidence that all but two Wizards who have achieved Tier 150 thus far are using the Tal Rasha set, and likely some version of this build. This is almost universally played with Meteor with the Comet rune as the centerpiece ability - and no wonder, with amazing Legendary support items such as The Grand Vizier/The Smouldering Core Staffs (one on Kanai's), Nilfur's Boast Boots and the Mempo of Twilight Helmet helping convert your wizard into a one-person nuclear arsenal. The eternal champion set of the Wizard remains Tal Rasha's Elements. As of this writing, the lowest tier to get onto the Wizard Solo Leaderboard is 148, with a rift time of 13:19. As the first week comes to a close, 787 Wizards have achieved the maximum solo rift Tier 150. With amazing damage output and unparalleled mobility, Wizards dominate high-tier play. To no one's surprise, the Wizard remains the most popular and prolific top tier character in Diablo 3. There is actually one class where the LoD "set" is the dominant choice for high-tier players, rather than any of the traditional class sets. Without this gem equipped and pushed to the highest levels, this build does not work at all - and it goes without saying that equipping any set pieces that give even 2-piece bonuses will render the LoD gem useless. These are generally legendary gear collections that use the Legacy of Dreams gem, which gives damage increases/reductions based on having no set items equipped. In addition to sets, there are also leaderboards for "No Six Piece Set Bonus". We will look at the most popular sets in high-tier play within these classes, in order by class popularity. The most popular classes in Diablo 3 based on high-tier play are as follows. The Most Popular Diablo 3 Classes and Sets in Season 28 Week 1 What sets will continue to rise? Which will fall in favor of other builds? It will be interesting to see how these change over the course of the season. But for those who do wish to see the highest levels of the game, these can help provide some insight into what other players are doing. Not all players choose to push high-tier content and that's fine. With aggressive gearing and deep class knowledge, you can probably make nearly anything "work". These are not meant to say that you cannot make any class or build viable or fun. These are meant to examine overall trends we're seeing on the top-tier Normal Seasonal leaderboards. The numbers presented are a snapshot taken on Friday, March 3rd, and will go out of date quickly. In all cases but one, the Haedrig's Gift set is falling to second place, and in one case (Necromancer), it's already fallen to third place. Although you can get the full Haedrig's Gift set within several hours of play, not one of these sets is leading their class in overall Leaderboards. Looking at the first week of Diablo III Season 28's leaderboards has been interesting, particularly watching how players are beginning to migrate away from the free Haedrig's Gift sets to those gearing strategies to ensure high-tier success.
